Framer's Latest Updates: Skills, CMS Lists and a Firewall for Business Sites

Framer shipped three updates between September 8 and October 1, 2026 that matter to anyone running a business site on it: a List field in the CMS for repeating content such as FAQs, Skills that teach Framer's AI agent your design system and writing style, and a Firewall that blocks or redirects visitors by country or by page. The first two help anyone who edits the site. The third costs extra and only some sites need it.

Framer's own release notes describe each feature well, but they're written for designers who build in Framer every day. If you own the site and someone else built it, the useful question is different: what changes for the people who update your pages, and is any of this worth asking your designer about? That's the angle here. For background on building without code, see our page on no-code websites and apps.

What is the new List field in the Framer CMS?

It's a CMS field that holds repeating content as one list, such as FAQ entries, product features or tutorial steps. Before, these had to be built as numbered fields like "Title 1" and "Description 1", which meant a fixed number of slots. Now editors add, remove and reorder rows the way they would in a table.

Framer released it on September 8, 2026. In Framer's words, you can "group items in a single list and add or reorder rows as you would in a CMS table." A designed card can repeat itself for each row, so the layout stays the same however many rows there are.

The numbered-field approach is one of those things a site owner never sees until it breaks. A page built with five FAQ slots looks fine until the sixth question comes along, and then someone has to change the design to add a field. With a list, the editor just adds a row.

For existing sites there's a migration path: Framer says you can ask the Framer Agent to convert repeated fields into a List field, and it reconnects the CMS data on the canvas. The same release added inline editing for content editors and duplicating several CMS items at once, which matter if your team updates many entries.

FAQ sections deserve a mention here. A page that answers questions clearly is easier for search engines and AI answers to quote, and a list that's easy to grow makes it more likely your FAQ actually gets updated instead of frozen at launch.

What are Skills in Framer?

Skills are saved instructions that tell Framer's AI agent how your site works: your design system, your writing style, or how a CMS workflow should go. Framer calls them "a new way to teach the Framer agent how you work." They were released on September 22, 2026, and are created or updated by typing /skills.

A skill can refer to parts of the project with @pages, @components and @styles, so an instruction can point at the actual button or text style it means. Skills also carry over when a project is remixed, which is aimed at template makers who want buyers to get their guidance too.

Why a site owner should care: the agent edits pages for whoever asks it. Without written rules, a quick request from a colleague ("add a section about our new service") is done in whatever style the agent picks. A skill is where your rules go once, so every request follows them. Worth putting in one:

  • which components to use for buttons, cards and sections, and which never to touch;
  • your tone of voice, with a few words and phrases you don't use;
  • how a new CMS item is filled in, for example that every article needs a summary and an image description.

A skill doesn't replace a person who checks the result. It narrows the agent's choices, which is most of what you want from it.

What does Framer's Firewall do?

It lets a site redirect or block visitors based on their country, the page they ask for, or both. Rules are set under Site Settings, Hosting, Firewall, and take effect when you publish. It came out on October 1, 2026, and it's only available with Framer's Advanced Hosting add-on or on Enterprise plans.

Framer's notes give two uses: restricting specific pages, and sending visitors to a particular language version on a localized site. For a business that sells only in some countries, or has a page meant for one market, that's useful. For most small business sites it isn't, and paying for the add-on just to have it would be the wrong reason to upgrade.

One caution, because the word "firewall" suggests more than this does. A country rule is a routing decision, not a lock: someone in an allowed country still sees the page, and anything private should sit behind proper access control. Also keep search engines in mind. Google asks site owners to make sure crawling is allowed "by any CDN or hosting infrastructure," and a hosting rule that turns away its crawler can keep a page out of results and out of AI answers. Test any new rule against the pages you want found.

Should you ask your designer to update your Framer site?

For the List field, yes, if your site has numbered fields for FAQs, features or steps; it's a contained change that makes future edits easier. For Skills, yes, if more than one person edits the site with the agent. For the Firewall, only if you have a specific country or page rule in mind.

None of these changes how the site looks to visitors. They change how easy it is to keep it current, which is where most business sites slowly fall behind. Frequently asked questions

What is the List field in Framer's CMS?

It's a CMS field, released on September 8, 2026, that stores repeating content such as FAQs, features or steps as one list. Editors add and reorder rows like in a table instead of filling numbered fields, and the Framer Agent can convert existing numbered fields into a list.

How do you create a Skill in Framer?

You type /skills in Framer to create or update one. A skill holds instructions for the Framer agent, such as your design system, writing style or CMS workflow, and can refer to @pages, @components and @styles. Skills were released on September 22, 2026.

Which Framer plans include the Firewall?

The Firewall is available with the Advanced Hosting add-on and on Enterprise plans. It redirects or blocks visitors by country, by the requested path, or both, and was released on October 1, 2026.
